Welcome to our newsletter. This week we've created a lesson on complex sentence structures. Our sentence structure lessons have been incredibly popular so we've decided to release a new lesson on complex structures based around STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) topics. We often find that EAP is so skills-based that it often misses the mechanics of grammatical sentence construction. So, here's a great lesson to help students students to polish their writing ability.
Sentence Structure Lesson 3 focuses on:
- Independent and dependent clauses.
- 3 types of sentence structure: adverbial, adjective and noun clauses.
- Sentence to paragraph-level exercises.
Language Focus
Adverbial clauses are dependent clauses and are connected to an independent clause to form a complex sentence. Either the dependent or independent clause can come first in the sentence, but a comma must be used to separate the clauses if the dependent adverbial clause is fronted.
