heart disease
Hi everyone,
Welcome to our newsletter. Due to a number of requests, we've decided to start creating lessons connected to academic medical English. We've started off by creating a series of new lessons (reading test, reading to writing summary, listening test and seminar speaking) on the topic of heart disease.

What is heart disease lesson about?
Cardiovascular disease (CVD), a term used for any disease which affects the heart or blood vessels, is responsible for almost a third of all deaths worldwide. Of this group, coronary heart disease (CHD), known simply as heart disease, is the most common cause of premature death. Despite the UK death rate due to CVD having declined by more than 75% since 1960, of the 1.5m men and 800,000 women currently living with it, one in eight males and one in fifteen females will die, resulting in £9bn a year in healthcare costs (British Heart Foundation, 2022).

What are these lessons about?
The reading text discusses the main causes of CVD, its treatment and prevention. The listening text focuses on the medical procedure of a Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG).
