Academic Pronunciation
What is academic Pronunciation?
This activity uses a list of the top 60 academic words from the Academic Word List (AWL) compiled from research by vocabulary.com. There are two activities of gap fill and dictation with accompanying videos so that it can be used in class or for self-study.
The lesson
AEUK has created 12 videos that accompany the worksheets. The idea is that students download the worksheet and check the pronunciation and meaning of the words. Then they listen to the video and either fill in the missing words (gap fill) or write the exact sentence verbatim (dictation).
The objective is to improve students’ awareness of the AWL, pronunciation and bottom up listening skills.Students need as much practice in listening as possible and this activity provides meaningful practice in developing vocabulary that can be transferred to other key skills such as writing.
