Procrastination

What is procrasination?

Procrastination is the tendency to put things off until the last moment or beyond the last moment. University students are particularly vulnerable to procrastination, possibly because of the amount of work expected of them, the lack of formal structure at university and the range of tempting distractions on campus. This lesson helps students identify the causes, effects and possible solutions to academic procrastination.

DICTOGLOSS: What is procrastination?

This is a nice way to begin this lesson through asking students what they know about academic procrastination at university. This is then followed by a dictagloss activity where learners are required to construct a short text (3 sentences) by listening and taking notes. In small groups they try to reconstruct the text. There are many key skills used in this type of lesson; listening, note-taking, communication with other students, grammar and vocabulary development.
